Medlem i KRO, Konstnärernas Riksorganisation.

When you least expect it…

Along came information about an event in India with TellusArt. They would be doing workshops and exhibits with children and artists from Sweden and Asia to raise awareness for protecting wildlife. I’d had some indications that India was in my path. So I thought why not, I can at least ask for the application. When I looked at the questions, my heart sank. Formal art education, was the first question. List of exhibits, the second. Experience working with children. I put the application aside. I thought there is no point. After all my earlier rejections, why would I even think of applying???

A true Eeyore moment.

Something made me revisit it and fill out the application. Higher guidance maybe. I sent it in and forgot about it.

A month later an email arrives from TellusArt. They had completed the selection process. At first I didn’t understand what it said.

- You are one of the fifteen Swedish artists selected to go on this trip.

I had to reread the email a number of times before my brain registered. I’m going to India! They picked me! It’s such a joke. I can’t get onto the local scene, but India, no problem. We start with an exhibit at the Prince of Wales Museum in Mumbai. One of the most prestigious places in the world to hang your art.

So the whole roundabout point of this chapter is to keep trying. Keep testing. Fling logic aside. And when you least expect it, a door will open and your job is to step through it. Don’t back down. Go forward, even if you don’t feel up to the task. The universe wouldn’t be opening the door if you weren’t meant to be there.

Nov. 18, 2009 –  “I’m thrilled to be part of this exciting project. TellusArt’s innovative approach for networking and cross pollenization of cultures, blending artists and children through workshops and exhibitions, feels like a wave of the future. Here we find a playful approach to raise awareness for environmental and social issues that encourage dialogue and exchange. Children are our future and their minds aren’t yet limited by what can’t be done. The language of art goes beyond rhetoric and artists can help stretch the boundaries, creating new paths. My hope is that we can help the world see things in a new way. The earth needs our attention and loving care. If we are at all tuned in to the beauty of nature and animals in the wild, we can’t help but want to do our part.”
